Trail Report
Happy Friday folks!
Here's your October 11th trail update:
I'm sure we all noticed how bad the smoke was some mornings this week, the Yellow Lake Fire is definitely a bit concerning, especially to those living in that area.
For the most up to date reports on this fire you can check out this link. summitcounty.info/yellowlakefire
As of a few days ago: -"Hunters and recreationists planning to camp or visit the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest on the north side of Mirror Lake Highway (Hwy 150) between Slate Creek (Yellow Pine Trailhead) and the Highline Trail should use extreme caution. Erratic fire behavior from the Yellow Lake Fire is likely to trigger a closure and evacuation of this area."
In other news, Deer Valley has a lot of construction happening at the moment. "Due to ski run, ski lift and snowmaking construction, the area circled in red is closed and is a dangerous construction site. Trail users need to stay away and obey all closures."
Please see pictures to see the circled zone to avoid at Deer Valley.
On the MTF side of things this week:
The crew installed erosion matting on yet another turn on Seldom Seen. We also continued some rock work up on the Wowza trail (which we hope to finish next summer), and mixed in some winter prep work to jump start getting things ready for our Round Valley winter grooming operations.
Whatever you get into this weekend, we hope you all stay safe and have a great weekend!

Is the lower extension of silver queen open?
**Trail alert!!** Seldom Seen**
Monday Oct 7th:
Our crew will be installing more erosion matting on another turn on Seldom Seen today. This will be on lower zone near the second Jenni's crossing. So please slow down in that area and be mindful of our crew as they try to get work done on an open trail!
Please and thank you!

You may encounter sheep and Great Pyrenees sheep dogs in the Red Pine Lodge area of Mid Mountain this weekend. Please exercise caution if traveling this section of the trail. #trailreport

Don’t mess with herding dogs! They’re not friendly pets… they’re doing a job protecting their sheep and they see hikers and bikers as a threat and will attack
What do we do with them?
"nice doggie..."
I’ve seen old signs posted about working dogs possibly being in the area on mid-mountain trail near there - but thought they were from a days gone bt

TGIF everyone!
Here's your October 4th trail report:
***In an effort to promote seasonal wildlife activity, the Bonanza Loop Trail is closed until spring 2025. Please respect posted trail closures and choose alternative recreation routes.***
This seasonal closure began October 1st.
It was a beautiful week to be up in Bonanza! Our crew has been enjoying the nice weather and the colors as we push on with the Wowza project. Lots of battling with impossible and sometimes possible rocks, at times it feels more like an excavator rodeo event than it does a work day. Good progress is being made however!
We haven't forgotten about the other trails of course, this week our crew also cut out a few new downed trees around PCMR and did some side veg work in Round Valley (Kari's/ Highside) and in Clark Ranch (the downhill piece of Upper Sparky's).
While many leaves have dropped already, there's still plenty of color out there to enjoy and the temperature is staying surprisingly warm this next week. Whatever you folks get into this weekend, we hope you have a good one!

It looked like you removed some black tiles from Seldom Seen? I was riding up Jenni's so not totally sure just saw a pile of them in the grass. Makes sense I guess to preserve from winter damage? That whole process... using the black plastic tiles to keep the erosion down fascinates me. I think they are great. Kudos to whoever thought that one up.
Any update on the new trail below silver queen?
Thanks for the update so I can inform people as to why. Awesomeness!
There are still a few hundred people per day on Bonanza hiking and biking. Perhaps put a couple people up there to turn people around?
hey Sandy Rypkema, looks like we will need to wait until next year to hike the Bonanza Loop Trail!
